"I can remember like it was yesterday my 1st 40’Day Fast. I was a babe in Christ and desperate for answers. This new world, new life rather yet, the Kingdom of God was all new to me. I wanted to please GOD in every way possible. I was so captivated by His love that the thought of ever losing that pained my heart.
Thank God I’m wiser now and know that God will never EVER stop LOVING ME. Even in this truth I still remain in pursuit of His will for my life. Over the years, I’ve faithfully added this 40 Day Fast at the beginning of the year as a spiritual discipline. I’ve often heard people share about “specific” spiritual disciplines that produces “God results” in their lives. For me it’s prayer and fasting. I’ve seen it work every time. This is undergirded by my faith and obedience to God and His word. During these specific times of fasting I experienced great breakthroughs, Healings, Creative Miracles, Business Ideas, Revelation and a greater Intimacy with God.
This year the word of the Lord to me is “LEAN IN” as I began to mediate on exactly what God was saying in began to make sense. We all know that has been quiet a year. Any thing that could be shaken, was shaken. Many things in our lives succumbed to the pressures of this shaken. Now we are in the "aftermath" of the debris of 2020 and some of us are asking the questions. "God what now, God what’s next? "
I believe during these 40 Days God will give us “Wisdom for the Journey” For some it’s moving on after the death of a loved one. it’s recovering from a broken relationship. A negative medical report, the lost of a job, the closing of a business, the foreclosure of a home, the eviction from an apartment. Whatever it is we can all testify that this year is not ending the way it started and yet, GOD IS STILL GOOD!
Beloved our Heavenly Father knows what we are in need of. He has not turned His back on us and left us to fend for ourselves, on the contrary He has been carrying us through. I believe that during this time of prayer and fasting God is beckoning us to come closer, to “LEAN IN." It’s time to get rid of the “Props” in our lives, meaning anything that has taken the place of God. GOD has Promised to do a NEW thing and in order to embrace the NEW we MUST forget the former things and put our confidence in God so that, we can reestablish our Trust in HIM and His faithfulness towards us. How can we accomplish this? By leaning into GOD and seeking His face.
Our Scripture for this fast is taken from the Psalms:
“Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed.” (Psalm37:3 AMPC)
During this fast we will be reading the Book of Proverbs. Proverbs is about wisdom. One one level, wisdom is a skill for living, a practical knowledge. Wise people know how to say the right thing at the right time and do the right thing at the right time. They live in a way that maximizes blessings for themselves and other in the world that God created. But at a deeper level wisdom is more profound than an ability to navigate life well. It begins with a proper attitude towards God characterized by "fear." This is not the type of fear that makes one run away, but it is more than respect its reverence. It is the awe that we should feel when in the presence of the Sovereign Creator. Proverbs is a book about wisdom, and intended to make its reader wiser.
